Exploring Solutions
There are very few college or career preparation programs in the United States that focus on students who are deaf or hard of hearing. There are a few that offer academic college preparation so that students can place out of developmental or remedial courses, but through benchmarking we have found that there are no programs that provide support through the college search, application and financial aid processes.
There is one online resource called Pepnet that's mission is to "increase the educational, career and lifetime choices available to individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing," (Pepnet, 2012). The organization of the site is slightly confusing, but for almost every piece of information Pepnet offers text, video of sign language, and audio recording. The flexibility of the mode of transfer of information means that more people will be reached and the chance of misunderstanding is a lot less likely.
